Alex Matthews, 24, was born in northern New Hampshire, in the ”city” of Littletown, and spent nearly 10 years of her childhood in the White Mountains.
Inevitably, she was outside a lot – hiking, skiing, bicycling – the list goes on. Not much changed when the Matthews family moved to the Adirondacks. Her dad still took her cross-country skiing most weekends, her mom urged her to get into road biking and she eventually started running for fitness.
By the time she graduated high school in Lake George, N.Y., Alex had a passion for recreational exercise. Sure, she participated in organized sports and went on to captain the Emerson College women’s soccer team in Boston, but she wasn’t very good at team stuff. Alex needed to push herself individually in stupid events like marathons, triathlons and warrior runs.
And so the journey really begins. I work out for fitness and fun, and have always found a way to laugh at myself in my non-competitive endeavors.
It’s all about trying something new and enjoying the ride. Thanks for reading.
